Touring A Small Island Called Tidung

Pulau-Tidung-3

Tidung is the name of an island located near North Jakarta, Indonesia. It is part of the Thousand Islands of Indonesia. Right, there isn’t only one “Thousand Islands” on this Earth. Its original name, Kepulauan Seribu, literally means Thousand Islands but apparently there are only about a hundred islands that are officially listed. Tidung is one of them. It is a petit island that you can explore the whole island in only 3 hours on foot.

I went there once on the heat of May. The sun scorched the island and everything above the ground. From the port we were told to walk a few meters until we reach the villa. There was no car, the road was too small like the picture above that only two to three bicycles or motorcycles could run side by side at the same time. We rented bicycles to have an island tour. Nothing much were there except for houses, small shops, a tourist beach at the north side of the island and gardens. There were 4 schools; 2 elementary school, a secondary school and a high school; according to a man who resided there. They received their everyday needs from the main island, that is, Java island. If the weather is bad they had to stay until it is possible for them to sail again. Nevertheless they seem to feel comfortable living there.

The only thing that I dislike was trashes that are scattered on the beach. The fact that most wastes were littered by the tourists made me felt despised. It made me wish to bring this cause to the public so that we can develop a convenient environment for tourism.
